Infrastructure
The Centre for Information Modelling – Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities is responsible for the realization of the web portal for the project. The Centre contributes its longstanding expertise in long-term archiving and administration of scientific and cultural heritage repositories. GAMS (Geisteswissenschaftliches Asset Management System – asset management system for the humanities) is a technical infrastructure suited to host a variety of projects as a storage and presentation platform (http://gams.uni-graz.at).
The CIM-ACDH offers consulting for all involved partners. The challenge lies in the often very heterogeneous annotation of (meta-)data in different collections and institutions. Previously annotated collections should be included and the use of controlled vocabularies and standardized metadata formats should enrich the resources (“metadata management”). The homogenization is required for the common search interface and the representation of the resources on the web platform. The technical challenge is to cope with very different software and storage systems, where interfaces have to be defined to guarantee interoperability. In addition, the CIM-ACDH provides the project management and coordination work for all partners.
